Proactive Electrical Engineer to design, develop, maintain, and document electronic metabolic measurement instruments in collaboration with a team of multidisciplinary engineers and researchers. Evaluate existing systems, prototypes, and proposals and recommend electronic design improvements to improve system performance, reliability, cost, and/or serviceability.

New Product Development Engineering activities such as:
- Completion of electrical/electronic designs from concept to hardware and firmware implementation in a cost-effective and timely manner
- Develop electrical schematics
- Design and layout of printed circuit boards (PCBs)
- Review PCB layouts for errors and omissions
Sustaining Engineering activities such as:
- Alternate electrical component identification and qualification
- Failure root cause analysis of product returns and design defects
- Identify and implement corrective actions
- Review firmware code and correct performance issues, reusability, and/or data anomalies
- Identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, and approaches to the analysis of electrical/electronic design issues
- Participate and provide feedback in product design review meetings
- Write and/or review design and manufacturing documentation for technical content and accuracy
- Develop test plans and execute testing of electronic metabolic measurement instruments to investigate, analyze, and verify alternative designs, components, or systems
- Assist manufacturing team members with electrical/electronic product design details, design for manufacturability, manufacturing and verification concepts, and material planning
- Provide suggestions, analysis, and technical expertise on the latest relevant technologies needed for current projects

- Experience with communication protocols between software and hardware, such as USB, RS-232, and TCP/IP
- Experience with alternate electrical component identification and qualification

- Experience with the identification of the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, and approaches to the analysis of electrical/electronic design issues
- Experience with the execution of functional, endurance, and environmental testing of mechatronic devices

- Proven technical writing and documentation skills

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience
- Three to five years of related electrical/electronic design experience
- Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering
- Five or more years of related electrical/electronic design experience
- Laboratory research and development experience
- Project Management experience
