Job Summary:
The Fabrication Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the fabrication shop, leading a team of welders, fabricators, and other personnel to ensure efficient and high-quality production. This role involves planning and establishing work schedules, managing production sequences, interpreting blueprints, and ensuring compliance with company policies and safety procedures. The Fabrication Manager will also oversee inventory management, equipment maintenance, and employee training to optimize productivity and maintain high standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review blueprints for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with industry standards before distributing them for production.

  • Assign work orders to welders and fabricators, tracking progress to ensure timely project completion.

  • Monitor and manage steel and parts inventory to prevent shortages and delays.

  • Coordinate in-house fabrication, maintenance, and repair projects across departments.

  • Participate in the recruitment, hiring, and training of new employees, assigning mentorship opportunities for skill development.

  • Conduct employee performance reviews and provide compensation and employment recommendations.

  • Enforce safety policies and ensure proper training for equipment operation.

  • Manage preventive maintenance and oversee equipment repairs as needed.

  • Inspect work progress, tools, and equipment to maintain safety and quality standards.

  • Act as a working leader, stepping in to assist with production and fabrication when necessary.

  • Utilize lean manufacturing techniques to drive process improvements in safety, quality, delivery, inventory management, and productivity.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee a team of 15 to 20 employees within the fabrication department.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for creating precision technical plans, blueprints, and models.

  • Expertise in various metals, welding, fabricating, and cutting techniques.

  • Proficiency in basic mathematical operations related to fabrication measurements.

  • Ability to ensure employees adhere to all company safety policies and applicable regulations.

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and familiarity with CNC software and CAD viewer applications.

  • Excellent bilingual communication skills (English/Spanish preferred) for efficient work assignments, safety promotion, and reporting.

  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and leadership abilities.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

  • Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience in a fabrication or manufacturing setting.

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in a similar role, demonstrating expertise in metal fabrication, welding, and production management.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in shop conditions with heat and humidity; occasional exposure to electrical hazards.

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects (occasionally up to 75 lbs., frequently up to 50 lbs.).

  • Requires manual dexterity, multi-limb coordination, and quick reflexes.

  • Must wear personal protective equipment (safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and hearing protection).

  • Requires excellent stamina and endurance to handle the physical demands of the role.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical knowledge, organizational skills, and the ability to drive operational excellence within a fast-paced fabrication environment.
