FACILITY ENGINEER

SUMMARY

Oversees and coordinates employees who maintain and repair electrical, plumbing, ventilation, refrigeration, and other building systems within NNSA Nevada. Perform systems evaluations on facilities and determine what installation or repair services need to be performed, manage a budget, and create calculations to ensure operational efficiencies. Perform hands-on corrections of facility systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as the Deputy Project Manager when the Project Manager is not onsite
  • Assign and schedule work tasks with other facility technicians in a team-oriented environment
  • Assist in the hiring and training of workers and arranging their schedules and work activities.
  • Coordinate and assist in repairs involving basic electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
  • Coordinate and follow up on preventative maintenance on refrigeration units, plumbing, electrical, overhead doors, and any other mechanical systems.
  • Develop and oversee the preventative maintenance program. 
  • Evaluate team members’ individual performances to ensure quality operations and investigate all accidents caused by team members and prepare relevant reports.
  • Input data into spreadsheets and be able to analyze and interpret data for essential communications to Company/Customer.
  • Instruct team in how to dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with established OSHA procedures.
  • Maintain ownership of Building Management System (BMS)
  • Make after-hours visits to the facility during emergencies or when essential systems require troubleshooting/repair
  • Make purchases for Company/Customer. Maintain all documentation of purchases.
  • Perform initial evaluations of building systems and distribute work assignments.
  • Read blueprints and plan projects to complete assigned tasks, and coordinate and follow up on incidental carpentry, masonry, and painting and plaster work.  Edit As-Built drawings as necessary.
  • Review and maintain maintenance logs and maintenance budgets and complete all documentation necessary to the completion of a task.
  • Work with Customer to evaluate needs for all work requests—both scheduled and unscheduled—as well as any special projects that arise.
  • Employees are required to drive company vehicles on a Federal Installation.
  • Other duties may be assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • 4-year college degree in engineering.
  • Experience working with boilers, cooling towers, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, landscaping, power & hand tools
  • Knowledge of Siemens’ Building Management Systems
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in facilities management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office -- Good computer skills are essential
  • Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, collaboration and problem-solving skills required
  • Understanding of essential facility regulations including electrical and building codes, OSHA, NFPA, and EM-385-1-1

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/CLEARANCES:

  • A Department of Energy (DOE) Q Clearance preferred. Clearance may be obtained as part of the hiring process for highly qualified candidates.
  • OSHA10 required/ OSHA30 preferred. OSHA30 may be obtained as part of the hiring process for highly qualified candidates.
  • Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW-low voltage)
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, managers and staff members.  Must be capable of initiating corrective action or revision of internal methods or procedures, IAW regulations, directives and guidance from higher authority, to resolve problems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may occasionally be required to lift more than 75 pounds. The employee must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

Work environment will require on-call rotation. The employee may be exposed to noise, dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold, heat, and inclement weather. The work may require the use of protective devices, such as masks, goggles, and/or gloves
