General Description:

The Instructional Server Assistant will be responsible for assisting instructors in delivering CALV’s hospitality-based vocational training programs. The Assistant will assist instructors with in-classroom activities, provide basic technical support where needed, assist in the on-site operation of the Westside Bistro restaurant, provide student assistance, and perform other administrative duties as required.

This position will collaborate with the Curriculum Team, Instructors, Student Services, and other professionals to best support students’ learning experiences.

 

Essential Functions:

• Assist the academic learning team to actively support teaching and learning actively, ensuring that training programs are best-preparing students for careers in the hospitality industry 

• Assist instructors in providing student support in the Westside Bistro and EDR while providing excellent customer service to guests 

•Assist instructors and staff in providing student support at special events, both onsite and offsite. Some nights and weekends may be required

•Assist instructors with administrative duties as needed

• Other duties, as assigned by the supervisor and tasks reasonably aligned with the assigned job functions. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent (required). 

Experience and Education Substitutions:

  • ESL certified (preferred)
  • Two (2) years of experience working in adult education and/or vocational training (preferred).
  • Two (2) years of experience working in the hospitality industry (required)

 

Licensing and Certification:

  • Current SNHD Food Handler Safety Training Card (required)
  • ServeSafe Food Manager Certification (preferred)

 

Note: Any degree, diploma, high school equivalent, or course hours required to meet minimum qualifications must be obtained from an accredited educational institution.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge with Microsoft Office Suites. Knowledge of technologies used in the hospitality workplace, such as point-of-sale devices, kitchen display systems, housekeeping handhelds, and work-related applications; and technologies used for personal settings, such as tablets, iPads, and cell phone/telephone applications (ex., voicemail, texting, camera, and videos).

Skilled in interpersonal and customer service skills. Strong organizational skills. Strong customer service skills.

Ability to communicate to a range of audiences to convey information effectively, persuasively, and accurately. Must be able to multi-task, maintain a high level of professionalism, and remain calm under pressure. Ability to exercise judgment in evaluating situations with the ability to use independent judgment.
