Responsibilities

Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is seeking a full-time Supervisor II to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide fiber optic support, diagnostic fielding and development support in a national laboratory environment. The Stockpile Experimentation & Operations (SEO) organization is looking for a highly motivated Supervisor II to collaborate in design, development, characterization, and fielding of fiber optics and diagnostics systems on high stake weapons physics experiments conducted at the at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises multidisciplinary team of technicians and engineers, including monitoring their work performance against specific goals and metrics.
  • Implements and follows company policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Participate in all walkdowns and meetings in support of multiple projects to discuss work scope, planning and budgeting throughout.
  • Create an environment where employees feel safe to raise issues, empowered to address issues, and supported to resolve issues.
  • Directly supervises, cross-trains, and improves technical abilities and resources across the fiber-optic team.
  • Interact daily with subordinates, support organizations, and multiorganizational project team.
  • Establish activity level work control documents and conducts pre-job and post-job briefings.
  • Ensure team is meeting customer expectations and deliverables.
  • Coordinate, plan and lead Sub-Critical Experiment (SCE) Diagnostic Skillset Development for the Fiber-Optic Session.
  • Provide day-to-day work direction while ensuring scope, schedule and budget are met.
  • Work with managers, supervisors, and employees to deconflict work and resolve issues.

  • Will perform work of the same type as those being supervised, as well as, providing technical guidance when necessary.
  • Create an environment where employees feel safe to raise issues, empowered to address issues, and supported to resolve issues.
  • Perform additional duties unique to this position as assigned by manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors' degree or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 8 years of related and progressively responsible experience.
  • At least 3 years’ experience at Department of Energy (DOE) complex preferred.
  • Able to develop and maintain relationships with all levels of employees throughout the company, customers, and outside agencies.
  • Able to prioritize and schedule multiple activities in the most efficient and effective manner while meeting required deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy required in ensuring that policy decisions, procedures, and operations are compliant with MSTS and DOE regulations, procedures, and federal and state laws.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to deal with conflicting personalities in a tactful, professional, and effective manner while screening and maintaining confidentiality is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, changing priorities, and apply leadership concepts with an emphasis on continuous improvement and team building.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, and computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and MS Outlook.
  • The primary work location will be North Las Vegas and the Nevada National Security Site including underground as required by projects.
  • Limited travel is required.
  • Work schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday-Thursday (change to work schedule as required).
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

 

Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

Annual salary range for this position is: $98,904.00 - $158,246.40.

 

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
