Overview

Responsibilities

THIS IS A CASUAL POSITION WORKING A MAXIMUM OF 900 HOURS PER CALENDAR YEAR.

NNSS is searching for an intern with a passion for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility. This unique experience will provide an opportunity to work closely with a dynamic and innovative team, making significant inroads to advance IDEA at NNSS and across the Nuclear Security Enterprise. The IDEA summer intern will support efforts to create a more inclusive workplace through intentional inclusion with a focus on improving the experience for our employees and external stakeholders. The qualified intern will provide administrative support, event planning and coordination, project management, research/analysis, and other operations of the IDEA department. Working directly under the leadership and mentorship of the NNSS IDEA Program Manager, the intern will work on all aspects of the IDEA strategy – Talent, Culture, and Brand.

 

About You:

The ideal candidate for this internship will:

  • Be motivated, enthusiastic, and passionate student pursuing a degree in: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Ethnic Studies, Multicultural Marketing, Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Behavioral Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Able to demonstrate awareness and understanding of multiple facets of diversity with a focus on intersectionality: cultural, ethnic, racial, religious, gender, educational, age, sexual orientation and other differences that make us unique.
  • Exhibit strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Be forward-thinking, detailed-oriented, and possess excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Have intermediate to advanced proficiency Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills

  • The ability to work with top executives, high-level contacts; cooperate with staff across different teams
  • The comfortability to engage with others in honest conversations about the topics of IDEA

 

A day in the life of the IDEA Intern can look like:

  • Assist with the support/coordination of NNSS Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility initiatives – programming, administration, and operations
  • Serve as coordination/administration support to NNSS Employee Resource Groups, inform management of progress and provide solutions for continued success
  • Assist in the research, coordination, and deployment of employee resources, communications, and trainings
  • Research best practices to recommend new approaches, training, policies, and procedures to effect continuous improvement of employment and diversity processes
  • Provide support for events and programming, including liaising with Minority Serving Institutions and community program offices, IT assistance, project timelines, etc.
  • Provide key administrative support as needed, including scheduling meetings, managing databases, and updating the IDEA and ERG SharePoint Sites
  • Participate in weekly team meeting and other meetings as appropriate
  • Participate in final intern presentations and present to the HR Leadership Team
  • Most important: Network with other interns, bring awareness to the positive impact of IDEA initiatives, and HAVE FUN!

Qualifications

Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

  • Completion of the first year working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Ethnic Studies, Multicultural Marketing, Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Behavioral Sciences or other related majors.
  • Must be actively enrolled in school, as of the date application is submitted.
  • Must have and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, as of the date application is submitted.
  • Must be located in the contiguous United States.
  • Ability to travel to/from the primary work locationwhich is at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • Work schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change).
  • A pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Ability to obtain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification credential under the Department of Energy Order 206.2, ‘Identity, Credential, and Access Management,’ and Supplemental Directive NNSA SD 206.2, ‘Implementation of Personal Identity Verification for Uncleared Contractors.’
