General Description:

The Accountant I position is responsible for supporting the Finance Department with various functions such as A/R and A/P functions, data entry for month-end close, month-end close, general ledger reconciliations, and other administrative tasks as required by the Culinary Academy of Las Vegas (CALV) Guidelines and Government Regulations.  

Essential Functions:

  • Review the A/R aging report for accuracy, including processing invoices and deposits. 
  • Prepare daily revenue and cash journal entries.
  • Reconcile revenue data from POS system.
  • Bank, credit card, and general ledger reconciliations 
  • Prepare gratuities and tips processing, reconciliation and distribution 
  • Payroll processing, assist with bi-weekly payroll processing 
  • Assist a/P with posting invoices, cutting checks, and reviewing A/P aging for accuracy
  • Assist with month-end closing and prepare month-end financial reports for management 
  • Prepare schedules and associated documentation for grant reporting
  • Prepare 401(k), health, pension, and Union Dues reports for submission
  • Prepare periodic reporting for submission to governmental agencies (i.e., BLS, Licenses)
  • Ensure compliance with financial record retention policies
  • Report irregularities and non-compliant situations to the Accounting Manager as required by corporate guidelines.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, or a field related to the work AND one (1) to three (3) years of finance or accounting experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of the principles of effective communication, including writing clearly and accurately. Knowledge of local, state, and federal taxes. Knowledge of business. Knowledge of accounting systems, including QuickBooks.  Knowledge of GAAP principles. Knowledge of the ADP system.

Skilled in Microsoft Office (Access, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), organization & time management. Strong project management skills. Must possess strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Ability to communicate to a range of audiences (internal and external) to convey information effectively, persuasively, and accurately. Must be able to multi-task, maintain a high level of professionalism, and remain calm under pressure. Ability to exercise judgment in evaluating situations with the ability to use independent judgment. Ability to learn quickly with minimal supervision and minimal training. Ability to perform local travel as need to off-site locations
